In MGMA's continuing mission to ensure that the ACMPE board certification and Fellowship programs are recognized throughout our industry as the premier accreditation programs for both current and future medical practice leaders, new program enhancements for both board certification and Fellowship were announced earlier this month at the MGMA 2017 Annual Conference. The enhancements to both programs are set to take effect January 1, 2019.
MGMA wants to be sure that all of you are aware of these changes, and particularly the change to the continuing education credit hours. Beginning in January 2019, nominees, CMPEs and FACMPEs will be required to get 30 of their 50 continuing education hours from MGMA sources (local, state and national). Of the 30 hours from MGMA sources, 12 must be face-to-face education. The remaining 20 credit hours can continue to come from outside qualified sources.
This decision was proposed by a joint task force composed of representatives from the Certification Commission and the MGMA Board of Directors and then adopted by the full Certification Commission and full MGMA Board. It is meant to ensure that ACMPE program participants are receiving high quality education as part of attaining and maintaining their credential. Again, the 30 hours of education can come from MGMA or any of its affiliate organizations so MGMA anticipates this change to be beneficial for participants and affiliates.
